- Abstract:
- The Scaridae (parrotfishes) are an important component of the herbivorous fish community that reduce the benthic biomass of macroalgae which compete for space with reef building corals. Because of their major ecological role, it is important to characterize the movements, distribution patterns, foraging rates, and spawning behaviors of individual parrotfish species. This study focused on the ecology of Sparisoma rubripinne (yellowtail parrotfish) in Reef Bay, St. John and Hassel Island, St. Thomas, USVI.
