|a This article explores the provenance of teh Bull masquerade in the Caribbean Lesser Antilles. It Looks at possible exemplars in Western Europe, particularly in Britain's West Country, Ireland, and Scotland, and also in West Africa, especially in the Upper Guinea region. It concludes that the Caribbean Bull was influenced by Upper guinea masquerades but nourished in an environment conducive to Christmas Bull perambulations on a European model. |
