- Abstract:
- Environmental sustainability has been an elusive and ambiguous concept from a management perspective since its inception in the mid 1980's. Subsequent research has given rise to numerous observations of the complex and multi-dimensional interactions between human societies and their environments. Leading to the conclusion that considerable gaps in understanding of the specific social processes that define, promote and are associated with sustainability and resilience. The research takes a bottom up, community based approach to exploring community knowledge structures regarding social-ecological dynamics as they relate to concepts of sustainability and resilience as social constructs.
